Central IL African American History Museum

The Central Illinois African American History Museum in Springfield is located at the entry to Oak Ridge Cemetery, where Abraham Lincoln is entombed. This is a true community museum whose mission is to “tell authentic stories about African American life in Central Illinois, past and present, celebration and sharing our history and culture and planning for our future.” This goal is achieved through exhibits, the gathering of oral histories, and partnerships. The museum seeks to be an integral part of cultural life in Springfield and to promote the best interests of the community it serves.
