This tour can be done in two days either moving clockwise or counterclockwise from its starting point in Springfield. Or one might choose just the Mormon sites (Nauvoo, Carthage, Warsaw, Quincy). Or one might focus on African American heritage (Springfield, Jacksonville, Winchester, New Philadelphia, Quincy). One might focus on Lincoln and his associates and legacy (Springfield, New Salem, Havana, Macomb, Quincy). And so forth. The route is richly multilayered. Indeed, Havana itself is so delightful and interesting it could occupy an entire day. Quality lodging is available in various of the towns.
