PRESERVING ILLINOIS HERITAGE

There is tangible and intangible value in the past for the present and future. Whether that past is the direct heritage of a group of people or adopted by them by virtue of residential proximity, the past can ground a population in place. Place identity can contribute to a sense of personal identity. It can promote respect for who other people were and are.
